Lebt und arbeitet in Eferding/OÖ. Die künstlerische Arbeit von Robert Mittringer umfaßt in gleich berechtigter Weise skulpturales wie graphisches Gestalten. In beiden künstlerischen Techniken konzentriert er seine Aufmerksamkeit auf die Frage der Raumbestimmung im Spannungsfeld zwischen Oberfläche und Materialwirkung sowie Umschreibung von Volumen. Seine behutsam gesetzten Oberflächenspuren kontrastieren mit verfremdeten Materialerfahrungen; in gleicher Weise setzt der Künstler die strenge Komposition seiner Formelemente in spannungsvollen
Widerspruch zu konservierend festgehaltenen, vorgefundenen Formelementen. Mit diesen Gestaltungsmitteln konzentriert Robert Mittringer die Verschachtelung von Raumkörpern
zu behutsam drängenden Raumballungen, die vom Betrachter größtmögliche Sensibilität der Wahrnehmung fordern.

Biografy Robert Mittringer
Robert Mittringer was born in 1943 in Asten, Upper Austria. Between 1981 and 1983 he developed actions with the „Donauhunde” art group. In 1989 he founded together with the artists Ak, Dorfer, Netusil and Rebhandel the “K5″ group. Mittringer’s exhibition-activity in the end of the 70es and in the beginning of the 80es, which took place in particular in Linz and Berlin (Paris Bar), where he held Actionism performances, brought him a certain degree of prestige. In the mid 80es the first international offers came from Germany and Sweden. Exhibitions in Italy, Belgium, France and the USA succeeded, together with art-fairs in Paris, Köln, Madrid, Chicago and Montreal. Mittringer is a member of the Maerz Artists Union, which was founded in 1913. In 1997 he won the first Ki-wanis-Nordico prize for small sculptures. In 1998 he received the artistic recognition from the City of Linz and in 2001 he also gained the Regional Cultural Prize of Upper Austria. His works are not only in possession of public bodies and private persons, but also in public collections like in the Graphische Sammlung Albertina, Vienna, in the Wolfgang Gurlitt Museum, in the Oberöster-reichischen Landesmuseum, Linz, in the Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart and in the Museo Casa Bianca, Malo, Italy. Robert Mittringer lives and works in Eferding, Upper Austria.
The favoured material of Robert Mittringer, an artist from Upper Austria, is cardboard. He arranges this elemental material in his very own specific technique to create something seemingly minimalist yet captivating in this simplicity. Robert Mittringer’s artworks, sculptures and installations usually begin with ordinary and poor and even more to the point ‘pure’ materials and finds, which he remodels and aesthetically purifies and reforms. In many ways the valuables obtain an additional refinement. The drawings in the Oeuvre Mittringers constitute their own complex. They subsist autonomously next to his plastic artworks.
In his drawings Mittringer lets himself drift away to the unconscious to find himself recirculating chaos to orderliness. In a further design step he provides his drawings with shellac, which imparts, as in controlled aging, its own natural virtue. Robert Mittringer is an artist who is reputed and accepted already for years in the Austrian high profile art scene.
